Purpose

This simulator enables QFZ leadership and partners to explore how different environmental strategies affect Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, associated costs, and long-term environmental outcomes. By adjusting various parameters, users can visualize potential trajectories and make informed decisions about sustainability investments.

Strategy Controls

QFZ Growth Rate

Annual economic growth target affecting baseline emissions. Higher growth increases activity levels and baseline emissions.

Solar Energy Share

Percentage of QFZ energy derived from solar sources. Directly reduces Scope 2 emissions from electricity consumption.

Water Use Efficiency

Improvement in water efficiency through recycling, smart irrigation, and desalination optimization.

Infrastructure Efficiency

Building energy efficiency, smart systems, and HVAC optimization to reduce operational emissions.

Public Transport Share

Percentage of workforce using public transit, reducing Scope 1 emissions from private vehicles.

Carbon Price

Price per tonne of CO₂e, affecting total carbon costs including taxes and offset requirements.

Emissions Target

Target percentage reduction by 2045. The simulator tracks progress against this trajectory.

Emissions Model

The simulation uses a deterministic model covering 2025-2045. It calculates annual emissions based on activity levels, adjusted by intervention factors for each strategy. Scope 1 emissions (35%) cover direct sources like vehicles and on-site fuel. Scope 2 emissions (65%) cover electricity consumption.

Carbon costs include: carbon tax (based on carbon price), offset costs for emissions exceeding targets, and upfront investment costs for solar and infrastructure improvements.

Data Import

You can import baseline data in CSV or JSON format to calibrate the simulation with historical emissions or custom targets. The import feature validates data and provides inline error messages for any issues.
